MSc / PG Diploma in Environmental Engineering and Management

The Division of Environmental Engineering has a strongÌýresource base, and it is one of the leading groups ofÌýenvironmental management education in Sri Lanka. The aim ofÌýthis postgraduateÌýprogrammeÌýis to provide a knowledge,Ìýtraining and expertise in theÌýfiÌýeldÌýof environmentalÌýmanagement, pollution control (water, soil, air, noise etc), waterÌýand wastewater treatment principles, solid waste management,Ìýsustainable development, natural resource management andÌýother relatedÌýfiÌýelds. In addition to formal classroom-basedÌýactivities, theÌýprogrammeÌýincludes laboratory, andÌýfieldÌýbased studies, both individual and group work. LaboratoryÌýsessions mainly consist of testing for environmental parametersÌý(physical, chemical and microbiological observations), andÌýwaste and wastewater related practical sessions.

Eligibility Requirements:

A degree in science from aÌýrecognisedÌýuniversity and a minimumÌýof one year of appropriate experience; the recognition of theÌýdegree to be determined by the Faculty and approved by theÌýSenate;

OR

At least, the associate membership of aÌýrecognisedÌýprofessionalÌýengineering institute in a relevantÌýfieldÌýand a minimum of oneÌýyear relevant experience after obtaining such membership;Ìýthe acceptability of the associate membership status of theÌýcandidate, the recognition of the institute and relevance of theÌýfieldÌýfor this purpose shall be determined by the Faculty andÌýapproved by the Senate.ÌýAt least, 80% attendance is required in lectures and tutorials.ÌýParticipation is compulsory in seminars and assignments, such as,Ìýlaboratory work, design work,Ìýfieldtrips, etc as envisaged inÌýthe course curriculum.

Duration of Course:

MSc: Two years (part-time)ÌýorÌýfifteenÌýmonths (full-time)

PG Dip: One year (part-time)

All lectures, assignments,Ìýseminars,ÌýfieldÌýtrips etc..Ìýwill be conducted normallyÌýon Fridays and Saturdays.
