The Global Sustainability Challenge (GSC) 2026–27 is an international student innovation competition that encourages young people to develop, test and showcase innovative solutions to real-world sustainability challenges.

The Research Hub for Green Energy and Sustainability (GESH) at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) is a Founding Partner and Regional Ambassador for South Asia. The initiative brings together leading global institutions, including the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, Technical University of Munich (TUM), São Paulo State University (UNESP), The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), Zhejiang University and Young Guru Academy (YGA), among others.

Challenge Themes

The 2026–27 edition focuses on the following themes:

• Sustainable Energy
• Adaptation and Resilience, with a focus on Water, Food and Heat

Eligibility and Participation

Students from all academic disciplines are welcome to participate individually or in interdisciplinary teams of up to six members.

Projects may include technological innovations, policy proposals, business models, community initiatives, educational programmes and behavioural interventions addressing sustainability challenges.

• Compete for a global prize pool of over US$35,000.
• Receive mentorship and expert feedback to develop and test their ideas.
