First Batch of Financial Services Management Graduates Celebrated at the 46th General Convocation of ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ

The Department of Industrial Management (IM) proudly marks a historic milestone with the graduation of the first batch of Financial Services Management (FSM) students (20th Batch) of the Bachelor of Business Science Honours Degree Programme. The graduation ceremony was held on 18th December 2025 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) during the 46th General Convocation of the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ.

This milestone represents the successful completion of the Financial Services Management specialisation by its inaugural cohort, reflecting years of academic dedication, resilience, and commitment. As the pioneering batch, the 20th FSM graduates have set a strong academic and professional foundation for future FSM cohorts and have contributed significantly to the growth and identity of the specialisation within the Department.

In recognition of outstanding academic achievement, the Department of Industrial Management proudly introduced the Gold Medal for Financial Services Management, awarded to the graduand who achieves the highest Overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.8 or above at the Bachelor of Business Science Honours Degree examinations. This prestigious gold medal is donated by Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC, demonstrating the Bank’s commitment to supporting excellence in higher education and professional development.

At the departmental level, the Department of Industrial Management will formally recognise the valuable contribution of Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC as a responsible corporate citizen that actively supports higher education and the development of future financial professionals in Sri Lanka. This recognition reflects the Bank’s strong commitment to promoting academic excellence, nurturing young talent, and contributing meaningfully to societal and economic development.

The Department of Industrial Management extends its heartfelt congratulations to the graduates of the first Financial Services Management batch and expresses its sincere appreciation to Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC for its continued support in fostering academic excellence and strengthening collaboration between academia and industry.

Commencement of Official Duties for the New Year 2026

The ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ officially commenced its duties for the New Year on 1 January 2026, adhereing to the Public Administration Circular No. 34/2025 issued by the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government. The ceremony commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Two minutes of silence were observed in remembrance of the members of the Tri-Forces and others who sacrificed their lives in service of the motherland. Subsequently, the academic, administrative, academic support, and non-academic staff of the University collectively participated in the reading of the Oath / Affirmation of the Public Service, reaffirming their commitment to integrity, dedication, efficiency and loyalty to the public. In his New Year address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. N. D. Gunawardena highlighted that, compared to other universities in Sri Lanka, the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ continues to experience exceptionally high demand across all Faculties, reflecting its strong reputation and national relevance. He emphasized that the primary responsibility of the University is producing of high-quality graduates, noting that at the most recent Convocation, more than 2,700 graduands received their first degrees, postgraduate degrees and diplomas including several PhDs.
