Vice Chancellor of University ofÌýMoratuwaÌýmet group of students, who recently won the ÌýHSBC Youth Enterprise Awards (YEA) 2015. YEA is a Business Idea Contest jointly organized by British Council and HSBC. It aims to recognize and support young entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka to start up their own businesses. There were over 800 contestant from higher education institutes, private universities and public universities participated for the YEA 2015 to win a total price money ofÌýLKRÌý1 million. University ofÌýMoratuwaÌýnot only won the top price, we produced theÌý1stÌýrunner up as well. This is the first time a State University won this prestigious award and for the first time a single institute produce the top two winners in a singleÌýcalanderÌýyear.
Dr.SujeewaÌýRatnayakeÌý(IFS endowed senior fellow) who currently engage in Innovation and Entrepreneurship culture promotion at the University ofÌýMoratuwa, arranged the meeting with Vice Chancellor Prof.ÌýAnandaÌýJayawardane, Deputy Vice Chancellor ProfÌýRahulaÌýAttalageÌýand Mrs.ÌýVishakaÌýNanayakkaraÌýon 08.12.2015. ÌýDuring the short meeting VC briefly learned about the innovations and experiences of both the teams. He appreciated the fact that the students are fascinated about what they did and of their future plans of taking their projects into the next level.
