Prof. (Mrs.) Dileeka Dias Appointed as Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ

The ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. (Mrs.) Dileeka Dias as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ with effect from 13 May 2026. Prior to this appointment, she served as the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor from 26 January 2026, providing leadership and administrative guidance to the University.

Prof. (Mrs.) Dias is a distinguished academic and administrator with an outstanding record of service spanning several decades. Throughout her career, she has held several key leadership positions within the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ, making significant contributions to institutional development, academic quality assurance and higher education management.

Among her notable administrative appointments are:

  • Founding Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies (2015–2021)
  • Dean, Faculty of Information Technology (2007–2010)
  • Head, Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering (1999–2004)

In these roles, Prof. (Mrs.) Dias played a vital role in strengthening postgraduate education, advancing academic programmes, enhancing research culture, and supporting the University's strategic growth. Her leadership has contributed significantly to the development of policies and systems that have strengthened the University's academic and administrative excellence.

Prof. (Mrs.) Dias obtained her B.Sc. Engineering in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering from the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ in 1984. She subsequently pursued postgraduate studies at the University of California, earning a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 1988 and a PhD specializing in Digital Mobile Communications in 1992.

Her academic and research interests encompass a wide range of emerging technological fields, including Digital Signal Processing, Wireless Positioning, Location-Based Systems, Wireless Sensor Networks, Mobile Computing, Internet of Things (IoT), Intelligent Transportation Systems, AR/VR applications, and Disaster Communications. She has supervised numerous research projects and has contributed extensively to the advancement of engineering and information technology research.

Prof. (Mrs.) Dias has also provided her expertise to several national-level initiatives. Her professional assignments include the development of regulatory frameworks for quality of service in broadband and mobile communication services, as well as the formulation of guidelines for the approval and periodic review of degree programmes offered by Non-State Higher Education Institutes in Sri Lanka.

A highly respected member of the professional community, Prof. (Mrs.) Dias is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and a Chartered Member of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL).

Throughout her distinguished career, Prof. (Mrs.) Dias has received numerous national and international awards and recognitions, including the Presidential Scholarship for postgraduate studies, the University of California Regents' Fellowship, the Zonta Woman of Excellence Award in Engineering, multiple National Science and Technology Awards, and several ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ Awards for Research Excellence. She has also contributed to a large number of research publications in her areas of expertise.
