The IEEE Power & Energy Society Sri Lanka Chapter, in collaboration with EESoc and the IEEE PES UoM Student Chapter, successfully hosted the workshop “Transforming the Power Sector with AI” at the ͷ on 11th October 2025.
The program began with an insightful session by Dr. V. Logeeshan on the growing need for AI in power systems, followed by a hands-on workshop conducted by Eng. Vidura Bandara, focusing on practical AI applications.
Participants visited the Final Year Project Room to view the project showcase of undergraduate final-year projects by students from batches 2019 and 2020, and also explored the Microgrid Laboratory, gaining exposure to ongoing research initiatives.
A group activity led by Dr. Akila Wijethunga encouraged participants to propose innovative AI-based ideas, with the best teams recognized for their creativity. The workshop concluded with a session by Dr. Rasara Samarasinghe on advanced AI applications, and certificates were awarded to participants.
The workshop provided a valuable and inspiring platform for students and professionals to explore the future of AI-driven power systems, fostering learning, innovation, and collaboration within the department.
