Mr. MBCM Gawarammana of�� Department of Architecture won both ‘The best Design Impact Award (International level)’ & ‘Gold Medal ( National level)’ at AYDA (Asia Young Designer Award Competition organized by NYPPON Paint for his final year Comprehensive Design Project, 2019, ‘Cultural and Industrial Exposure, Gem Promotional Center @ Rathnapura’.

The 6th Moratuwa Engineering Research Conference (MERCon 2020), an international conference organized by the Engineering Research Unit (ERU), was successfully held as a virtual conference from 28th-30th July 2020. The program included 114 papers selected from 272. Double-blind review process is followed in the review process by the technical program committee (TPC) led by program chairs and track chairs including additional reviewers.

The 9-year long product and process development research partnership between the ����ͷ��, the Uni-Consultancy Services (UNIC) of the ����ͷ��, and the DSI group of companies was renewed on the 27th July 2020. Through this renewal, D. Samson Industries (Pvt.) Ltd. also joined the industrial collaboration.

A Webinar on Post-COVID Engineering Education in Sri Lanka was held on 16th July 2020. It was co-organized by IEEE Sri Lanka Section, Department of Mechanical Engineering, ����ͷ�� and IMechE Sri Lanka group. An expert panel comprising, Prof. A Atputharajah, Prof. Janaka Ekanayake, Prof. JP Karunadasa and Prof. Leelananda Rajapaksha moderated by Prof.

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Sri Lanka Group has organized a competition to explore the IMechE Young M e m b e r s ’ design skills to fight COVID-19 pandemic. The objective has been to assess the design strengths of the young members to battle the global crisis. The final evaluation was held online on 29th May 2020.

Prof. PG Rathnasiri from the Department of�� Chemical Engineering has established an international collaboration with laboratory of environmental biotechnology, Narbonne, France.

In line with the internationalization strategy of the ����ͷ��, the Department of Textile and Clothing Technology is collaboratively working with the Birmingham City University (BCU), United Kingdom, as the host institution of a staff mobility project funded by the International Credit Mobility Scheme, Erasmus +.

Prof. Sisil Kumarawadu has been appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Governors of������ Arthur C. Clarke Center for Modern T e c h n o l o g i e s (ACCIMT) from February, 2020. Prof. Kumarawadu is a Senior Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering.

The UoM team won the first runner-up award in the 2020 CASS COVID-19 Special Student Design Competition organized as an event of International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS) 2020. ISCAS is the flagship conference of the IEEE Circuits and Systems society with more than 750 research paper presentations in each year.
