Prakampana ’26, the annual cultural showcase organized by the the Electrical Engineering Society (EESoc), illuminated the Sumanadasa Courtyard on 7th April 2026 with a vibrant display of music, dance, and drama. For one memorable evening, the Department of Electrical Engineering at the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ came alive not only as a hub of engineering excellence, but also as a stage for artistic expression.

Dr. Rasara Samarasinghe, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ, has been appointed as the Director of the Engineering Research Unit (ERU) of the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ.

The Department of Electrical Engineering proudly inaugurated the January 2026 intake of its Master’s programmes on 24 January 2026. The ceremony, held in the Department Seminar Room, welcomed a talented cohort of postgraduate students across three major streams: Electrical Engineering , Electrical Installation, and Industrial Automation.

The Department of Electrical Engineering proudly congratulates Prof. W. D. Prasad on being conferred the President’s Award for Scientific Research – 2025, organized by the National Research Council of Sri Lanka.

The Electrical Engineering Society of the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ will host the Round Table Conference 2026 (RTC ’26), a premier national forum dedicated to shaping Sri Lanka’s clean energy transition. Scheduled for 13 March 2026 at Marino Beach Hotel, the conference brings together policymakers, industry leaders, academics, and students to discuss strategies for a sustainable and resilient power sector.

VOLTAGE ’25, the official Freshers’ Night of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ, was held on 29 January 2025 at the Sripalee Banquet Hall, with the participation of the Head of the Department, senior lecturers, and students from Batches 23 and 24. Organized to welcome Batch 24, the evening marked the beginning of their journey as members of the Electrical Engineering family.

Chanupa Hansaja Vithanage and Geeganage Senuja Dilmith from Batch 23 of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ were part of Team GMora, which secured the 1st Runner-Up position at the Cosmotron Rover Simulation Competition.

Dr. Rasara Samarasinghe, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ, has been appointed as the Chair of the IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) Sri Lanka Chapter for the 2026 committee term.

The Department of Electrical Engineering proudly congratulates Professor Thushara Rathnayake on her promotion as a Professor in Electrical Engineering at the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ.
Professor Rathnayake currently serves as the Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board (SLAEB). She holds a PhD in Nuclear Engineering and Management and an MSc in Quantum Engineering and Systems Science from the University of Tokyo, Japan, along with a BSc (Hons) in Electrical Engineering from the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ.
