Dr. Lasantha Meegahapola, currently a Senior Lecturer in the Electrical & Biomedical Engineering, School of Engineering, RMIT University, Melbourne, paid a courtesy to visit the Department recently. During the visit, he delivered a guest lecture on “Recent Developments in Power Grid Transformations" at the Electrical Engineering Seminar Room which was organized by the Electrical Engineering Society. The guest lecture was attended by the students and the academic staff.

Dr. Upuli Jayatunga, Advisor of the IEEE IAS (Industry Applications Society) SB (Student Branch) Chapter of ����ͷ�� was awarded the Outstanding Chapter Project Organizer in the IEEE IAS Outstanding Member and Chapter Awards 2018.

Dr. KTMU Hemapala was appointed as an executive committee member at the Annual General Meeting of the IEEE Sri Lanka Section held on the 7^th��of February.

Mr. Punsara Colambage, Research student in the Dept. of Electrical Engineering, and Prof. H Y R Perera visited Hamilton, New Zealand to attend the IEEE International Conference on "Industrial Electronics for Sustainable Energy Systems (IESES) -2018" held from 31^st��January to 4^thFebruary 2018. A joint paper on "Assessment of Cost of Unserved Energy for Sri Lankan Industrial Sector" was presented in the conference.

Dr. Asanka Rodrigo served as a resource person to the training workshop on “Green Project Management (Master ) at Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo on 12^th��November 2017, which was organized by the Ceylon Institute of Builders (CIOB-SL) together with Building Construction Authority (Singapore). The seminar gathered few eminent speakers and industry professionals engaged in the energy management and construction field. Dr.

Dr. Asanka Rodrigo, as the Deputy Chair (Prescient-Elect) of the IEEE PES Sri Lanka Chapter, participated for the IEEE PES Asia Pacific (Region 10) Chapter Chairs’ meeting held in Bangalore, India from 7^th November to 8^th November 2017. This meeting was held alone with the 9^th��IEEE PES Asia-Pacific Power and Energy Engineering Conference 2017.

Sri Lanka Robotics Meetup 2017 is an IEEE event organized by Robotics and Automation�� Society Sri Lanka Section Chapter in partnership with IEEE Sri Lanka Section. The focus of the forum is on status of robotics and automation applications and possible future directions. Dr. Buddhika Jayasekara served as a panelist in Sri Lanka Robotics Meetup 2017 which was held on 28^th September 2017 at Virtusa Auditorium.

IEEE Student Branch of ����ͷ�� has been awarded the 2017 Darrel Chong Student Activity Award by the IEEE Student Activities Committee. Commending the active involvements and accomplishment of one of its main projects MoraXtreme of IEEE SB UoM, in a letter to Prof Sisil Kumarawadu, Counselor, IEEE SB UoM, IEEE Student Activities stated that "Your Student Branch has demonstrated steps toward improving the quality of IEEE Student Activities and the fostering of knowledge sharing.

Prof. H Y R Perera participated the 9^th International Conference on sustainability in Energy and Buildings – SEB’17 – held in Chania, Greece from 5 – 7 July 2017. He presented the paper on “Reduction of Solar PV Payback period Using Optimally placed Reflectors”. The paper is co-authored by D T P Wijesuriya, K D S H Wickramathilaka, L S Wijesinghe, D M Vithana and H Y R Perera. The paper is accepted for publication in the Elsevier Journal Energy Procedia

Dr. DP Chandima, Dr. AGBP Jayasekara and Dr. KTMU Hemapala elevated to the grade of Senior Member of the IEEE this year. Senior Member is the highest professional grade of the IEEE for which a member may apply. It requires experience, and reflects
professional accomplishment and maturity. Less than 10% of membership achieved this level of professional recognision.

The Department would like to congratulate Dr. DP Chandima, Dr. AGBP Jayasekara and Dr. KTMU Hemapala on joining the elite rank of IEEE Senior Members.
